The REA Advantage

The AFREA and our Position on Critical Transmission Systems in Alberta (Bill 50)

The Alberta Federation of Rural Electrification Associations Ltd. (AFREA) supports the Government and their efforts to introduce a strategy for defining and approving critical transmission systems in Alberta. There is a need to install new systems that will meet Albertan’s expectations and the growing demand on the electrical transmission system in our province.

3rd ANNUAL CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC - another huge success!

This year's 3rd Annual Charity Golf Classic, co-hosted by the Alberta Federation of REAs and the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-ops, was not only a sell-out thanks to 172 golfers but was a profitable fundraiser as well! A cheque for $25,000 will go to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, Alberta Division, to help fund rural projects and aid in further research. Statistics show that MS is more prevalent in Alberta than anywhere else in the world. Contributions to such a worthy cause are imperative in hopes of finding a "homegrown cure."

REA Disaster Resource Management Plan - being prepared is no accident!

On Friday, July 31st the AFREA hosted a conference call to determine the status of REAs and disaster planning.  This year's implementation of the Business Management System prompted the AFREA to encourage and facilitate a review and assessment of "how ready are we" in case of H1N1...or any other disaster that might threaten the business continuity of any REA or the AFREA.
